Sponge's AP Human Geography Vol. 3 - Population Policies

Policies are instituted by social or political means to control a population.

There are different types of policies:

Expansive: Increase the birth rate and population growth.

Example: Nazi Germany, women were rewarded for having more children

Restrictive: Reduce the increase of population, usually designed to maintain a population.

Examples: China and the One Child Policy, India

Eugenics: Control the increase of certain groups of people.

Examples: Nazi Germany, Japan, and the US. ( Check out some other examples.)

Population Policies instituted by governments may be ethical or unethical by some standards. The United Nations monitors these policies and categorizes them by region and development:
