TO CONSIDER IN STUDYING THE DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION MODEL:
The model is based on the UK and although many countries do not follow it completely, Japan and France have.
Newly Industrialized Countries (NICs) follow the model and progress through faster than the UK did.
Stage 5 has recently been added and accepted based on countries that are experiencing a negative growth rate. Since the model is dynamic, changes can be made as the population patterns of the world change.
Since the model is based on the idea of "western" industrialization, the model may show many countries struggling to emerge from Stage One.
Countries can move backwards also, like Zimbabwe.
Migration is not considered in the model.
TO FURTHER YOUR LEARNING:
Find other examples of countries that would fit in each stage - e.g. look for countries in the news: Syria, Croatia, Hungary, Cuba, North Korea, etc.
How does the DTM correlate with Rostow's Stages of Economic Growth? Or does it?
Research specific policies (MDGs and SDGs) that support positive changes in the BR and DR. (Millennium Development Goals and Sustainability Development Goals)
